ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, 2024 – Match 1

The United States will take on Canada in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas as the highly-anticipated tournament kicks offs later today.

USA vs Canada is cricket’s oldest rivalry since the first ever international cricket was between these two sides in 1844 at the St George’s Cricket Club in New York.

Monank Patel will lead the USA while Saad Bin Zafar will be in charge of Canada during the match.

The North American rivals have locked horns seven times in T20I matches, where USA had the upper hand on five occasions and Canada have won twice.

Canada and USA are in Group A alongside India, Pakistan and Ireland.

USA are heading into the event in good form with recent series win over Canada, 4-0 (one no-result), before a historic 2-1 series victory against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Canada, despite losing the series to USA in April, had a morale booster with their win over Nepal in a warm-up match.

Speaking ahead of the first match, American batter Aaron Jones is looking forward to playing fearless cricket during the tournament.

“We don’t want to regret anything,” Jones said. “We want to leave everything out there on the park.”

“If we come out on top, it’s great. If we don’t come out on top, that’s how cricket goes sometimes. But we don’t want to regret anything.”

Meanwhile, Canada’s skipper Saad also echoed similar thoughts.

“We have finally made it. We’re finally here,” Saad said.

“Everybody’s excited. Everybody’s itching to go. Everybody’s in the performance mood. I think we are ready to go and play some quality cricket in the next few weeks.

“We don’t have a lot of pressure on our shoulders. I think we just want to go and express ourselves and play to our potential. That’s the brand of cricket that we’re looking to play.”
